EuroPride Vienna 2019 June 1-16
The EuroPride 2019 motto “Visions of Pride” should invite everyone to realize their own personal visions at this major event. More than one million visitors are expected to attend this multi-week event in June 2019.
The Rainbow Parade has been taking place since 1996 and since then attracts more and more visitors every year, now well over 100,000. Vienna Pride has been in existence since 2007 – as a roof and a staple over all the events taking place around the parade. Since 2010, a multi-day Pride Village, usually at the Town Hall Square, organized. Incidentally, Vienna was already the host of EuroPride in 2001.
Although Vienna does not have a predominantly gay / lesbian neighborhood, there is a vibrant and diverse LGBT scene centered around the Naschmarkt, which connects the fourth and sixth districts. Here you can as part of a local tour to the 20 relevant restaurants on foot, including such popular restaurants as the Willendorf in the Rosa Lila Villa or the Sixta, the self-governing community Gugg Treff HOSI Vienna and several bars and cafes such as Savoy , Mango, Felixx, Red Carpet or Village, to name just a few. Vienna may not have as many gay-only venues as comparable large cities, but it has many gay-friendly and mixed venues all over the city.
In the last 20 years, several major LGBT major events have been established in Vienna. These include the Vienna Rainbow Ball and the Rose Ball – among the over 400 balls that take place during the carnival season in Vienna. Every two years the queer film festival “identities” takes place, every year the International Queer Minorities Film Festival “Transition”. At “Wien in Schwarz” the fetish scene gets together every year. And of course, Vienna Pride with the Pride Village and the Rainbow Parade is the absolute highlight in the LSBTIQ annual calendar.
